The Export Wizard

The Click2Map Export Wizard allows you to export all the markers present in a map into a text file that can then be edited or used by third party applications. You can, for example, use the Export Wizard to download a copy of your markers' parameters and use the file as a backup copy or as a template to enter additional markers after opening it in Google Spreadsheet, OpenOffice or Microsoft Excel. You can even export your markers in a Google Earth compatible format to visualize them in this application.

To open the Export Wizard and start exporting your markers, use the Tools > Export… command from the main menu.

Step 1: Welcome

The Export Wizard

The first step of the Export Wizard is a simple welcome screen: click on the Next button to move on to the second step or on the Cancel button to abort the export process and close the Wizard.

Step 2: File Format Selection

The Export Wizard - File Format

This step lets you select the file format that should be used to export your markers' parameters:

  • CSV, separated by: CSV is the acronym for Comma Separated Values which is a standard text file format used to exchange data between different applications. This is the option to select if you wish to edit your markers inside of Google Spreadsheet, OpenOffice or Microsoft Excel, for example. Click2Map lets you use three types of CSV files - you should select one that is easily recognized by your application.
    • Comma: Select this option to generate a text file in which each marker will be placed on a separate line, each of its associated fields being separated by a comma.
    • Semicolon: Select this option to generate a text file in which each marker will be placed on a separate line, each of its associated fields being separated by a semicolon.
    • Tabulation: Select this option to generate a text file in which each marker will be placed on a separate line, each of its associated fields being separated by a tabulation.
  • KML: KML is the acronym for Keyhole Markup Language - it is an XML file format common to Google Earth and Google Maps that can be used to import/export marker information between these two applications, among others. Select this format if you wish to share markers with other Google Earth users, for example.
  • XML: The XML format is the one that allows you to save the most comprehensive quantity of Click2Map information. Choose this option to make a backup copy of a map's data, for example.

Step 3: Export

The Export Wizard - Export

This last step lets you review the selected export parameters before you proceed with the actual exportation: if the file Type displayed in the Summary section suits your needs, simply click on the Export Now! button to generate and download your data file.

When the data file is ready, your web browser's standard file download dialog box opens, asking you if you wish to Open or Save the data file: click on the Save button to save the file on your hard drive. If the file download dialog box doesn't open, please check the upper part of you web browser's interface: you probably need to override a security parameter to activate the download operation.

After you've retrieved the data file, click on the Finish button to end the export process and close the Export Wizard. You can then open the downloaded CSV file in your favorite application.
