The Cluster Dialog Box

A map will quickly look excessively cluttered when it includes dozens of markers; at lower zoom levels, markers overlap each other to the point where the map itself becomes hardly visible.

Marker clustering is a technique by which several points of interest can be represented by a single icon when they’re close to one another. Click2Map’s clustering engine divides the map into a given number of cells and represents all the markers present in the same cell by a single icon. This icon shows the number of markers it symbolizes.

The Cluster dialog box

To open the Cluster dialog box, first select the desired map then choose the Clustering Options command available in the Edit Map menu.

  • Enable Clusters: The Enable Clusters checkbox allows you to activate or deactivate the clustering system for the selected map.

The marker clustering mode can be fine tuned using three different parameters:

  • Clustering Rate: From 0% to 100% (default value: 68%). Higher values increase the likelihood for your markers to become part of a cluster. A 0% value means that only the markers located at exactly the same coordinates will ever be clustered.
  • Minimum Markers: From 2 to 16 (default value: 3). This parameter determines how many markers should be present in the same cell to be clustered. If a cell contains less markers than the value of this parameter, no clusters will be created.
  • Maximum Zoom: From 1 (worldmap) to 17 (street-level map); default value: 15. This parameters determines at which zoom level clustering should no longer be performed.
  • Autodetect: The Audodetect button lets Click2Map automatically detect the optimal clustering parameters based on the geographical area covered by the markers, the zoom level and the number of markers.
  • Apply: The Apply button validates the clustering parameters and applies them to the currently selected map.
